This Brown Sugar and Maple Apple Cake is a rustic cake that is pretty to the eye. No frosting needed, and it goes perfectly with a hot cup of tea or chai!
Brown Sugar and Maple Apple Cake
Ingredients:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ¾ tsp ground cinnamon
- ¼ tsp sea salt
- 1/3 cup brown sugar, packed
- ¼ cup pure maple syrup
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
- 1½ cups peeled, cored and chopped apples (choose a crisp variety)
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350°. Spray a round cake pan lightly with oil.
In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt.
In a second medium mixing bowl, whisk together brown sugar, maple syrup, butter, egg, and vanilla extract until smooth.
Pour wet over dry ingredients, stir until smooth.
Stir in apples till coated with batter.
Scrape into prepared cake pan and smooth out.
Bake for 23 to 30 minutes, until cake is golden on top and center is done.
Let cool before inverting out of pan.
Store covered.
