The basics. You gotta have fresh pumpkin pie spice blend. Yes, you can go buy it. In a jar. But ask yourself…has it been there since LAST October? Yes, most likely. If you have a well stocked spice rack, you can whip this up in minutes. Now, imagine this blend in a fancy-pants spice shaker, for dusting over a freshly made Pumpkin Spice Latte or Frappe. Or it mixed with sugar, and cookies rolled into it. Keep going, I’ll let your mind drift. And then you can go back and make some of these recipes with it.
Pumpkin Pie Spice Blend
Ingredients:
- 3 Tbsp ground cinnamon
- 2 tsp ground ginger
- 2 tsp freshly ground nutmeg
- 1½ tsp ground allspice
- ½ tsp ground cloves
Directions:
Mix up the spices in a small bowl, store in a tightly sealed glass spice container (a 4 ounce baby food jar or canning jar work well).
Use within 6 months for best results.
PS: Why glass? Spices deserve the best. Plastic isn’t it for them. A dozen 4-ounce canning jars will set you back $7 to 11 dollars, your nose will thank you later, when the aromas stay inside, where they belong! Or do as I do, and recycle glass baby food jars….
PS2: Tomorrow? It is all food blogger conference time! What a weekend in Seattle!!
I have pumpkin pie spice in my pantry and sometimes stick my finger in there and lick it…sooo yummy!! lol!
